Geisinger becomes the first member of Risant Health

DANVILLE, PA – Geisinger Health Plan (GHP) recently presented Carmen Kahiu, customer service manager, and Chelsea Little, behavior health liaison, with Service Excellence Awards.

The biannual award is presented to GHP employees who consistently demonstrate a commitment to excellence in service and quality, a positive attitude, teamwork and dedication to GHP’s initiatives.

Steve Youso, GHP president and chief executive officer, presented the awards during a ceremony on Aug. 14 in the cafeteria at the Hughes Center.

Carmen was nominated for a myriad of characteristics, such as how she often goes above and beyond for GHP members. On Dec. 21, 2017, a well-known GHP member passed away alone and without loved ones. Hearing this news, Carmen stepped up to ensure she received a proper burial. She called numerous agencies and churches, and through her efforts, the member had a service and she was buried in a local cemetery.

“Truly this woman is the epitome of C.I. Care,” Suzi Slater, scheduling services specialist, said in her nomination of Carmen.

C.I. Care is an innovative communication program that helps everyone in the Geisinger family express caring. It stands for Connect, Introduce, Communicate, Ask and anticipate, Respond and End with excellence.

Chelsea was nominated for her hard work and resilience in helping her team complete a time-intensive project.

The project involved the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) office which recently requested that all managed care organizations complete the Mental Health Parity analysis per CMS guidelines. Chelsea helped facilitate all discussions with Magellan. She also completed most of the analysis needed for this project.

"Our entire team wants to give her a huge thanks for the work she has done!” Marcy Schmehl, state government programs programmer, said in her nomination of Chelsea. “Without her help, we would not have gotten this completed. Thank you so much!"

GHP’s Service Hero Award winners were also recognized during the ceremony. The winners included: Cindy Dimm, medical management case manager; Nancy Dietterick, clinical access specialist; and Donna Oley, senior account manager.
