Geisinger becomes the first member of Risant Health

Scranton Area Community Foundation honors Geisinger as community partner

SCRANTON, PA – The Scranton Area Community Foundation recently recognized Geisinger’s pilot transportation program at its annual Community Celebration. Geisinger was named a featured community partner for the event.

Each year, the Scranton Area Community Foundation pays tribute to notable community partners. These businesses, nonprofits and individuals are selected for their commitment to the community through philanthropy or serving as an ambassador of the Scranton Area Community Foundation.

In April, Geisinger started a pilot program with numerous local transit companies to provide patients in the Scranton and Danville areas with rides to medical appointments, the pharmacy and even the grocery store. Participating patients were members of Geisinger Health Plan, actively enrolled in case management and live within a 25-mile radius of Scranton or a 50-mile radius of Danville.

As of December 2018, the pilot program provided 3,900 rides to 1,459 people. The average trip was 27 miles with 85 percent of them being used for medical visits, 13 percent for food related needs food needs and 2 percent for social service and pharmacy needs.
