Notice about charges for personal protective equipment
To keep everyone safe during the COVID-19 health crisis, providers are using large quantities of personal protective equipment (PPE) like masks, gloves and face shields. It’s necessary — but know that providers can’t bill you for their increased use of PPE. If you receive a bill for items like gloves and masks from your provider, be sure to call Customer Care so we can help.
Here are some other billing issues we can help resolve for you.
• Providers are not allowed to bill you directly for amounts beyond what’s allowed by insurance. This “balance billing” is a violation of our provider contract.
• Providers, laboratories and other testing facilities may not charge a lot more for tests than what the tests actually cost. That’s known as price gouging, and it also violates our provider contract.
We’re here to help you get your healthcare at a fair price. If you have any of these issues with your provider, just call us at the Customer Care number on the back of your card and we’ll look into it right away.
